A Short Stay In Humahuaca, Argentina
May 29th, 2007 | By admin | Category: Travel JournalAfter Salta, we took the bus to Humahuaca. Humahuaca is in the province of Jujuy, Argentina’s northernmost province. It’s a wild, mountainous place, with lots of towns and tiny villages perched high in the Andes. Humahuaca, for instance, is 3000 metres above sea level. It’s a small, pleasant, tourist town, surrounded by tall cliffs on both sides and high mountains in the distance. It’s an old town, over 400 years old, this part of Argentina was one of the first to be settled from the north, long before Buenos Aires was founded.
We stayed in the very nice Maison Enchanteé, a small hostal with rooms decorated in a french style, in a very luxurious double room…highly recommended.
In the afternoon I wandered around, exploring the cobbled streets and ancient houses, and taking photos. I also visited the gigantic Monumento a la Independencia (Independence Monument) and took photos of cactuses against the stark blue desert sky.
