Old Things and Useless Junk in Montevideo, Uruguay

One of the things that fascinates me about Montevideo is the number of old things and seemingly useless junk that is sold in small shops and street markets around the city. Who would buy this stuff, I wonder, and what would they use it for, and why is there a market for it? It seems very strange to me.
